Local Business Spotlight - Mortgages by Jessalyn

This career has allowed me to meet some amazing people; one of those is Jessalyn Brown of Mortgages by Jessalyn. She and I had a little sit-down recently.

Tell me about being a mortgage broker?

Well, I have been a broker for 3 years now. Before that, I was a licensed assistant at Investors Group for 4 years. I decided that I needed something more, I wanted a career where I could work independently and help people.

My mom is a mortgage broker in Saskatchewan, and she encouraged me to follow in her footsteps. So, with her mentorship, I stepped into the world of mortgages.

It has been an incredible 3 years filled with lots of learning and helping people achieve their home-owning dreams.

What are you passionate about?

Being able to help people realize their home goals is amazing. Sitting down with a client that feels like owning a home will never be in their grasp and showing them how it can be possible. Credit coaching and educating them. It is never too late to start working on your credit. I work with all types of homeowners; 1st-time buyers, 10x investors, even people that have experienced bankruptcies. There is no better feeling than getting people in their dream home. I love that every deal is unique and that I am constantly learning.

Tell me a little about working with REALTORs® (BLB😉)?

I enjoy working closely with REALTORs®. When you work with a professional it makes closing deals easier. They know what documents are needed and what the timelines are. It helps ensure things run smoothly when everyone is on the same page. Building a strong network and knowing that I can refer clients to the best real estate agent to suit their needs is important to me.

BLB and I started at roughly the same time. I was connecting with REALTORs® on LinkedIn building my network and connected with one of your colleagues. We met for a coffee and totally hit it off! We share the same passion for helping clients and have been known to sit at open houses together. Giving clients the absolute best service is important to both of us.

You are crazy passionate about being a mortgage broker, is there anything you dislike?

All the desk time can add up. I would rather be out talking to clients, doing face-to-face meetings, or coaching them to reach their financial goals.

Anything unique you want to share?

I have penned a deal in every province in Canada. My main focus however is Alberta and British Columbia. My mom does all the Saskatchewan deals 😉

Another thing I love about her is her positive spirit and her ability to see the good in people. Jessalyn truly is an extraordinary person. She’s 30 years old and killing it in every aspect of her life. I’m very proud to call her not just a friend and colleague but a best friend. I know I can count on her and I always leave her with a smile on my face. I love that she challenges me and often has me seeing things from a different perspective. She is fun-loving, intelligent, loyal, hardworking, kind and an absolute beauty inside and out. Providing excellent service is very important to me and I completely trust her when it comes to taking care of my clients. If you need a mortgage broker Jessalyn is your gal.
