Local Business Spotlight – The Designers Closet Canada

The Designers Closet Canada is an online consignment boutique where you can buy wonderful gently used designer items for less. Consignment boutiques are becoming more popular in today’s eco-fashion-conscious world. Cheryl the owner of The Designers Closet Canada is a wonderful person, who I have become friends with. We met close to 4 years ago when I was in the market for a new handbag. I love the idea of being able to find a new home for my gently used items and reinvesting in something new for myself. Cheryl and I chatted recently; discussing her consignment boutique.

Tell me a little about yourself

I have lived in Alberta for over 20 years. I have a wonderful husband and two teenage boys who I love dearly. For the last 10 years, I have worked from home. I decided to sell items now and again on Facebook and it just took off. I think it became an addiction, lol

I have sold things from furniture to furnaces. But my passion has always been designer bags and accessories.

Tell me about your business

I started The Designers Closet Calgary on Facebook. I buy and sell high-end authentic designer bags and accessories.

How did you get started?

After selling on Marketplace and Kijiji for many years, I decided it made sense to have my own Facebook page where I could have my own followers and place my customers could come to see what I had for sale.

What inspired you to start your own business?

After selling on my Facebook page for a few years, I decided to take the leap and have a website developed. The Designers Closet Canada was born. It's still in the infancy stage, but it is a place where people can purchase if they want to use Paybright or Sezzle as a form of a payment plan.

If you could share a lesson learned for other small businesses what would it be?

Don’t give up! It takes time to grow and takes lots of hard work, but it is well worth it.

In one sentence how would you promote your business?

Reuse, Resell & Reinvest!

What is your favourite handbag?

Do I have to choose one?? Lol. I love them all really!

Cheryl and I have a love for the finer things in life and that’s what brought us together and I am so grateful that we met. Being able to call her my friend is a blessing. She is a ray of sunshine and so positive. She’s absolutely beautiful inside and out with a heart of pure gold. You will always leave her with a big smile on your face. Selling luxury bags is the perfect business for her. She’s very knowledgeable and more importantly, I trust her. I know when I give her my bags to consign, she will not only go the extra mile, but she also will get top dollar for them.
